No poverty. No Hunger. No environmental damage. No inequality. This is the roadmap for the future that the world community has decided. The ambitious sustainability goals aim at ensuring a humane life – everywhere and for everyone. Sustainability can only be achieved together. Governments are called on here just as much as companies and private individuals – and also science, of course, which uses research methods to seek promising new paths, technologies and solutions, classifies these and puts them to the acid test. Scientists at the Humboldt research sustainability issues in numerous projects. Some of these, we present here, and would like to discuss. We call this “expeditions” – in memory of Alexander von Humboldt’s research trip to America from 1799 to 1804.
